Hey, I felt this would be a decent topic for here. Basically, it's a place for everyone to share poems they have written, or to make up poems on the spot. Then, to hopefully recieve comments, constructive criticism and the like.

I'll start with a Ballad I wrote way back when I was a senior in High School. I fully intend to write the music to sing this too one day. One day.

The Ballad of the Fox and the Axe

By Jonathan Lawson (Darkfur Marlfox)

Long ago in cold December,
While the night-wind was drafty,
A fox did boast to all he knew,
"Of all I'm the most crafty!"

The animals within the woods
Tired of his hubris.
They all concocted in the dead of night
To help him meet Anubis.

The following morn they called the fox
To give him a mission.
"Go steal the woodsman's axe," they said,
"While this evening he is fishin'."

Oh confident, sly and crafty fox,
Your pride caused you to sin.
If you steal the woodman's axe
He may have a new fox skin.

"Fail this task," continued the group,
"And you'll be banished from this glade."
The fox now knew he had no choice,
But to do as they said.

He banished all regrets and fears,
For he knew the perfect trick
To get the fishing woodsman too
Part with his cutting stick.

To his wife he quickly sped
To tell her of his plan.
To her he would show off his skill
At thieving from a woodsman.

Oh confident, sly, and crafty fox
You are surely set
To prove to all your boast is true
And on it you would bet.

The woodsman sat upon a rock,
His axe right by his side.
Had he been far more awake
Two foxes he'd have spied.

Soon the forester fell asleep
With his line still cast.
As he took his forty-winks
The fox slowly passed.

Ever so gently the fox took the line
And pulled it to the ground.
Around a tree he took it with
Nary an audible sound.

Oh confident, sly and crafty fox
Your plan is truly cruel.
To trick this simple forester
To prove you are no fool.

He hooked the line to the man
And gave the line a jolt.
To reel in his hoped for prize
The woodsman did bolt.

The movement caused the axe to fall
And cut the line dead center.
Into the lake the man did fall
In the middle of this winter.

The fox picked up the axe and said,
"No one's craftier than me!"
Said his wife to herself,
"We'll see, we'll see, we'll see..."

Oh confident sly and crafty fox
You think yourself better than all.
Your wife now wants to show to you
Pride comes before the fall.

Later that day as evening approached
The wife whimpered sadly.
"If you will seek me some nourishment
I'll carry that axe for you gladly."

Never to doubt the word of his mate
He sought her something to eat.
He returned to see his wife taking
The credit for his feat.

The woodlanders expelled the fox
From the woods he lived in.
And that, my friends, is how the fox
Was out-foxed by the vixen.

Oh humbled, broken, and foolish fox,
You learned a hard lesson indeed.
One hopes you not repeat your sin
When you find the new home you now need.
